Healing Broth

Consider making this simple broth when feeling run down or worn out.

It contains healing and soothing ingredients that can provide significant cellular rejuvenation.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the benefits of these medicinal foods.

Onions

Have powerful antibacterial properties and can destroy many disease-causing pathogens such as E.coli and salmonella. They contain valuable sulfur compounds known to strengthen the immune system significantly. Onions are the richest food source of quercitin, a potent antioxidant that has been shown to prevent sinus infections and bronchitis.

Garlic

When feeling under the weather, think GARLIC! This is one of the world’s oldest remedies for warding off various illnesses and diseases. It has been proven more effective than penicillin and tetracycline in suppressing specific disease-carrying agents.

Thyme

It contains antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial and expectorant properties, which help soothe coughs, relieve fevers, and fight colds and infections. Thyme is also diaphoretic, meaning it helps induce sweating, which supports your body’s ability to detox and therefore heal. Plus, it contains a very high level of antioxidants.

Parsley

When the body becomes acidic, dis-ease can occur, and nasty micro-organisms can thrive. Parsley is one of nature’s strongest alkalizers, which supports healing throughout the body.

Bay leaves

One of the most important benefits of bay leaves is their ability to reduce inflammation throughout the body.

Ingredients

2 garlic cloves, crushed

1/2 large yellow onion, peel on and cut in half

2 green onions

2 bay leaves

Large handful of fresh thyme

Half a bunch of fresh parsley, leaves and stems

Bunch of whole black peppercorn

Pinch of sea salt, optional

Water, preferably filtered

Instructions

Place all ingredients in a large pot.

Pour enough water to cover the vegetables by an inch.

Cover with a lid slightly vented. Low simmer for 30 minutes.

Let it cool, strain and drink!
